Pepperwood Burr

Where: California, Mexico, Central Chile and Argentina

Botanical Name: Schinus molle

The Pepperwood Burr, sometimes knows as Peruvian Pepper or Pimienteira, is favoured for its warm honeyed tones interwoven with darker veined areas which add depth and pattern to the veneer. Pepperwood often exhibits centred ‘burr eyes’ as well as attractive swirly effects.

Pepperwood is a small to moderately sized tree which grows to around 15 metres in height. It originates from Southern California through to Mexico and as far south as Central Chile and Argentina.

In the Peruvian Andes, Pepperwood has been grown for culinary and medicinal purposes as far back as the Inca Empire. The burr veneer is sourced exclusively from the base of the tree. Colours can vary from background tones of salmon pink, yellowish green or light golden brown, marked with irregular grey-black, tan or brown veining.

Please note: since wood is a natural product, your Bark & Rock notebook truly is unique and is likely to differ in both pattern and shade from the photographs on our website. These are designed to be indicative of a given type of wood in general.
